PNG to WebP Converter

Convert PNG images to WebP right in your browser — transparency preserved, no file limit, no size cap. Nothing is ever uploaded, so it's fast and safe for private or client images too.

Runs entirely on your device
No file count or size limit
Transparency preserved
Batch download as ZIP

✓ Transparency stays intact

WebP supports an alpha channel just like PNG — your transparent backgrounds carry over automatically, verified per file.

ⓘ Quality dial, not a "lossless switch"

Browsers don't expose a guaranteed true-lossless WebP mode — quality 100 gets you the closest a browser can produce.

⚠ Animated PNGs (APNG)

Only a single static frame can be converted — the animation itself isn't supported.

How it works

Three steps to smaller files

1

Add your PNGs

Drag in as many as you need — there's no cap on count or file size.

2

Set the quality

Higher quality keeps more detail, lower gets a smaller file.

3

Convert & download

Grab files one at a time, or everything at once as a ZIP.

FAQ

Common questions

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion happens entirely inside your browser using the Canvas API. You can disconnect from the internet right after this page loads and it will still work.

Will transparent backgrounds be preserved?

Yes — WebP supports an alpha channel exactly like PNG does, so transparent areas carry over. Each file is checked for transparency and flagged in the results list.

Is there really no file size or count limit?

Correct — there's no artificial cap. The only real limit is your device's own memory when converting a very large batch of high-resolution images at once.

Why doesn't this offer a "lossless" WebP option?

Browsers don't give web pages direct control over WebP's true lossless mode — only a quality dial. Setting quality to 100 gets you the closest thing to lossless a browser can produce, but we'd rather say that plainly than claim a guarantee we can't back up.

Why convert PNG to WebP at all?

WebP typically produces a noticeably smaller file than PNG at a similar visual quality, which helps page load speed and Core Web Vitals — while still supporting transparency, so it's a drop-in replacement for most PNG use cases.

Does this work with animated PNGs?

No — only a single static frame can be re-encoded, so animated PNGs (APNG) aren't supported. We'd rather flag this than silently break your animation.

Compression above 100% quality is not possible — this is a re-encode, so always keep a backup of your original PNG files.
